Information and direct assistance are available online and through a staffed answer service. Biofuels Center of North Carolina - Developing a statewide biofuels industry to reduce the state's dependence on imported liquid fuels. The goal is that by 2017, 10 percent of liquid fuels sold in North Carolina will come from biofuels locally grown and produced. Conservation Trust for North Carolina - With many of the state's local land trusts, works closely with farmers and government agencies to protect productive farms. Natural Resources Conservation Service - Assists owners of America's private land with conserving their soil, water, and other natural resources. Most work is done with local soil and water conservation districts. Every county in North Carolina is served by a soil and water conservation district and Natural Resources Conservation Service office. N.C. Farm Bureau - A private, non-profit grassroots organization that promotes farm and rural issues and provides agricultural education, member services and other programs. N.C. Farm Transition Network - Partners with organizations and professionals toward the goal of keeping land in farm and forest production as it passes between generations or otherwise changes ownership. N.C. Agribusiness Council - A non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization representing all aspects of the agribusiness industry, including farmers, ranchers, manufacturers, processors, suppliers, financiers, transporters, wholesalers, retailers, marketers, communicators and various commodity groups. N.C. Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts - An independent, nonpartisan conservation organization that represent the interests of the 96 local soil and water conservation districts and the 492 district supervisors who direct their local district's conservation programs. N.C. Cooperative Extension Service - Provides easy access to the resources and expertise of N.C. State University and N.C. A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. N.C. Division of Forest Resources - Agency that protects, manages and develops the forest resources of the state to meet present and future needs. Each county has a forest ranger to provide local technical assistance. N.C. Division of Soil and Water Conservation - Cooperates with federal agency and local partners to administer a comprehensive statewide program to protect and conserve the state's soil and water resources. Soil and Water Conservation Districts - Directory of district offices who can provide assistance to landowners. N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services - State agency with regulatory and service responsibility for agricultural operations N.C. Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund - North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center - A private, non-profit organization, funded by both public and private sources and led by a 50-member board of directors that develops, promotes, and implements sound economic strategies to improve the quality of life of rural North Carolinians. The center serves the state's 85 rural counties, with a special focus on individuals with low to moderate incomes and communities with limited resources. N.C. State Grange - A nonprofit, grassroots, family-oriented organization dedicated to community service and promoting agriculture as an important segment of our economy and the wise conservation of natural resources and the environment. Resource Conservation and Development Councils - Accelerates the conservation, development and utilization of natural resources, improve the general level of economic activity, and to enhance the environment and standard of living in designated RC&D areas. RC&D areas are locally sponsored areas designated by the Secretary of Agriculture for RC&D technical and financial assistance program funds. USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) - Administers and manages farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster and loan programs as laid out by Congress through a network of federal, state and county offices. |
