Mountain Resources Commission
The Commission is tasked with providing recommendations to local, state, and federal legislative and administrative entities regarding protection of these resources. During the 2009 legislative session, the General Assembly established the Mountain Resources Commission (Session Law 2009-485, Senate Bill 968) to “encourage quality growth and development while preserving the natural resources, open spaces, and farmland of the mountain region of Western North Carolina.” This was signed into law by Governor Perdue on August 26, 2009. The 17 members were appointed as noted:
