Mountain Resources Commission


The mission of the North Carolina Mountain Resources Commission is to take care of our natural resources to enhance and sustain quality of life and ensure the long-term health of our region and our people.

The Commission is tasked with providing recommendations to local, state, and federal legislative and administrative entities regarding protection of these resources.

Enabling Legislation

During the 2009 legislative session, the General Assembly established the Mountain Resources Commission (Session Law 2009-485, Senate Bill 968) to “encourage quality growth and development while preserving the natural resources, open spaces, and farmland of the mountain region of Western North Carolina.” This was signed into law by Governor Perdue on August 26, 2009.
