Commissions and Councils
The Mountain Resources Commission will identify and evaluate issues affecting important mountain resources and recommend policies and programs to address those issues. With help from state agencies and others, the commission will collect research from North Carolina and other states on approaches to issues such as planned growth in mountainous areas. The commission can also determine whether new strategies should be pursued to address the growth pressures placed on mountain resources. The commission is responsible for providing guidance and advice for local planning boards and government officials but does not have regulatory authority. Any decision the commission makes won’t supersede the decision of a planning board.
The North Carolina National Park, Parkway and Forests Development Council is a state appointed advisory body created to promote the protection, preservation and sustainability of western North Carolina’s natural and economic resources. By studying issues, determining needs and advocating solutions to the appropriate federal, state and local officials, the Council strives to protect valuable public natural resources for future generations of Western North Carolina residents. |
